If you want the best, get a Nvidia Geforce 6800 series. It was a good comeback from Nvidia. They are currently the best performing video cards overall. But, they suck up a lot of power.

If you want something more practical, get a Radeon 9800 np/p/xt or a 9600 np/p/xt depending on your price point.

Oh, and StOrM, I might as well say it nicely before z2z007 gets in here. Try not to double post. Edit your original post if you have something to add.

The 9600xt its like the sweet spot between price an performance, with PCX cards comming out the X600xt is replacing the 9600xt and in turn the price of the 9600xt i getting presured to be lowered. Being so, not everone has a PCI express board and the X600xt is basically under the same chipset as the 9600xt but it is in Pci express. As of now video card preformance have not yet turn the 2gb bandwitch of AGP8x in to a bottleneck but maybe in future generations of cards. PCI express is always a welcomed future proffing for investements like grafix cards but the actual need for PCI express is probally not needed until 2-3 years. Therefore the 150$ you spend on a 9600xt will atleast last you that long, and after that you would probally have a job and afford your own high end grafix cards in PCI express and as well get a new MOBO and Processor to go along with. I don't really recommend spending more than 150$ on a agp card as it is granateed to be outdated once its out of the box but hey not eveyone has teh $$ to replace their whole motherboard+cpu combo in order to accomadate a PCX card. So the 9600xt would be the best pick being in your situation

Newegg has the Sapphire 9600xt for a great price.
128mb, $135
256mb, $152

The increased memory doesnt really make a difference in performance, so the 128mb version has a better value. The memory is also clocked higher (650mhz vs 600mhz; could be a typo though) than the 256mb version.

I don really trust Sapphire, I heard once that they took short cuts in manufacturing the leaving you short, plus in preformancewize sapphires tend to be slower and unstable. To get the most out of the your money Try Asus or Ati.
