I emailed emkei long ago and they were willing to disclose the IP if I could supply the headers.
Obviously one time is not enough...

I'm sure emkei's been contacted already. I've heard from several teachers that the police is working on this and someone from the FBI is involved as well. This breach was not only on bths's site, it was a breach on the NYDOE system. Not only that, but the fact that pornographic material was sent out resulted in this becoming a very serious matter. If caught, the original person who did this and the people who followed his instructions afterwards will face heavy punishment. At the minimum they'll be expelled and likely unable to attend any decent college, since college's will contact Tech to find out the reason for the expulsion. To whoever the wise guy is that decided to pull this silly prank good luck in your future if you get caught.

Actually it wasn't a breach at all, just a silly hole in Google's system.

What kind of hole is it? I thought it was just a simple filling out of the form on emkei and using the mailing list address.

A loophole. They don't check the sender's identity well enough.
