A new ebook about a fictional ultra competitive high school in downtown Brooklyn was published in May. Worlds Apart by Luke Loaghan follows the story of musical prodigy David throughout his senior year in high school. He is from a poor family, and pursues the girl of his dreams, Delancey. In a high school of academically gifted students, David struggles with self doubt, insecurities, and decisions about college. The goal at this fictional high school is to get into Harvard, no matter what the cost, no matter who gets hurt. It takes place during the crime ridden 1980's, when students and teachers carried guns to school regularly. The book has a supernatural twist as David must give the musical performance of his life in order to win back the girl of his dreams. Its an adaptation of the classic Greek myth of Orpheus. Print version due out at the end of June.

So why did I write the book? I am still shocked by how many people from my senior class still can't get over high school. So many people are stuck in the past, as if high school was some big tragic event in their lives. Its as if it happened yesterday, not in 1989! I know that many high school students today think life was so vastly different twenty years ago (my own kids ask if I lived in Black and White and not in color), but only the technology has changed, not the personalities, and not the issues. I doubt this book will be a big seller since I am not a professional writer, and maybe the audience is too limited. It wasn't written for any other reason than for me to expunge high school out of my system. Some of the content in the book is likely to be considered too adult for high schoolers (though very realistic given the headlines these days), and no one will ever believe that such a high school could even exist, let alone exist in Brooklyn. If you are looking for a summer read....with advice about life....I hope you enjoy it. If you ever buy the print version I'll be happy to sign it for you.

See if you can put a few print copies of your text in the school store...or even the school library!

If the school librarian is okay with it, I can send 2 copies. Can post her acceptance of Worlds Apart here? Also, xMrstrife, it would help and be appreciated if you can post a review on Amazon or BarnesandNoble, Itunes and wherever you blog. Glad you liked it!

I work in the library. I can ask them tomorrow during lunch, if I remember.

My capacity is 500 things/pieces of information. The 501st today was remembering to get my bag of supplies out of the car, which I forgot. Meaning I have 500 max. Maybe I should upgrade my RAM, haha, humoring myself. That's how you feel after coming out of a line at Staples that goes around inside the store. Haha... ha... T_T

Thanks to everyone that down loaded this book on Amazon for 99 cents. Over the past year, the book's success is helping to raise discussion about teenage age suicides and teen age stress. Hundreds of copies were downloaded from just high school students this year. Thanks again to everyone! Luke Loaghan's Worlds Apart is one its way to a successful year!
