Hey guys. the shsat for 9th grade is in a few months. I know its almost the as the 8th grade but a bit harder and includes trig. I really wanna get into brooklyn tech. last time i barely got into york. What books should i buy for trig? Please help me! thanks. i hope i can enter tech as a sophomore.

Little do people know, YouTube is a power resource when it comes to testing. There is no book for 9th graders but some YouTube users have set up channels to help people pass the test.

Well Im not specifically asking for book just wanted to know what's gonna be in the test that wasnt in the 8th grade test. Will there be Trigonometry?

There will be basic trig, the same things you encountered on the eighth grade test (logical reasoning, etc). I've also heard - not entirely sure on this - that the Math includes: graphing inequalities, finding areas of portions of cubes, factorials, permutations and combinations. Good luck.

The trig in the shsat is just sine, cosine, and tan.
You don't need to get a book and and teach yourself the entire subject of trig, that's just overkill. I believe there is an shsat book, Princeton, I think that had two chapters specifically for 9th graders but that's about it.
As for other topics suggested above, you can find them in old math A Baron regents books in the library.
The test is not really harder for 9th graders, it's just that there are less seats available.

Everyone always swears that the 9th grade test has trigonometry and much harder subjects than the 8th grade test has, but I didn't notice any difference when I re-took the test in 9th grade. Don't even bother learning new material for the 9th grade SHSAT, just try to improve in the subjects you did poorly on last year.

Your middle school does for the 8th grade one. High school counselor for 9th grade.

I'm confused by the second question, what do you mean?

what i mean is that they have very few space for the people to take SHSAT.. is that true???????

Strawbery, anyone who wants to retake the exam can retake it, but the chances of getting in are slimmer. There are going to be fewer seats available in each school.

There are fewer seats, but there are fewer students taking the exam in 9th grade, so I believe the trend is that the cut-off remains basically the same. For me, in 8th grade, I think the cut-off was 560 for Stuyvesant and 490 and Tech, and I knew a kid who got a 560 and got into Stuyvesant when he took the test in 9th grade and a kid who got into Tech with around a 500.

The test this year for 9th graders is October 30th, but I can't seem to find the deadline for getting a ticket.
Nonetheless, just go to your guidance counselor before the end of September and you should be able to get one, to be safe ask next week after the beginning of school rush has died down and everyone is down with their schedule changes and such.
