Nope, the city couldn't afford to continue with language regents and there will be no more January regents either. However, I've read that private donations will fund January regents just for 2012.

Regardless of language, NYS requires that you take a language and pass the regents

There is no longer any language regents. Over the years they have been dropping different language regents and have finally dropped all them.

And what if I were to choose not to get a Tech diploma? Besides English, language, and gym requirements, I believe I have met all the criteria for a Regents diploma. What are the benefits of a Tech diploma?

The Tech diploma is a sticker/seal placed on your regents diploma and transcript. It is endorsed by the NCSSSMST, but I believe it's main purpose is just to give you a feeling of accomplishment.

I was completely unaware that Senior year math was not mandatory. When I signed up for classes last year, the registration page did not state that Senior math was optional. I want to drop a Calculus class, because I believe it will do nothing but hurt my GPA. In addition, I want to go to an art college so math will not be one of my priorities.

What is the possibility that I may drop my Calculus class? I know that students won't be able to drop it because they "chose" it, but I "chose" it unaware that I had a choice. Had I known that Calculus was optional, I would not have fit it into my schedule.

Pointless for me because I fulfilled everything except buying another two SGO cards.

@Sulate: The pre-calculus is not the trigonometry class right? Because the trig class has a required regents. If it's 'Calculus', just take it; it will only prepare you better for your math courses in college and there's no state test at the end.

You can drop it. It's regular calculus.

It says it's Pre-Calculus. I did however take trig and pass the regents sophomore year. I don't mind taking real Calculus senior year if the state requires 3 years of math in highschool. But, I don't want to be forced into a class that serves me no purpose. I'm sure I would learn and benefit but I rather have that time to focus on my other courses. Same point applies to spanish III. A person I know graduated from tech last year and failed his 3rd language year.

The class is technically Calculus. I mean that's the only class I know of that is after trig and before AP Calculus. I took it last year and it said Calculus on my schedule though we mostly went over pre-calc stuff and started the real stuff 2nd term.

The state doesn't require you to take Calculus, but you are required to take Spanish III. You can ask your guidance counselor to drop it, even though they'll probably all advise against it.

Take Calculus.....One of the things I regret not doing while at Tech. I had to spend twice as much time as those who had a Calc background when I took it last year at UB.
