What happened to the signs on the wall that indicated which is which? I'm getting annoyed with all of the freshmen going up/down the wrong staircase. It took me almost 5 minutes to go up three floors today. Even for the first day, that's a bit ridiculous.

FOR FRESHMEN:
THE BACK STAIRCASE IS THE DOWN STAIRCASE.
THE FRONT STAIRCASE IS THE UP STAIRCASE.
DO US ALL A FAVOR AND FOLLOW THE RULES.

Who's going to enforce it? The security guards?

Can't help with the lunch lines though. Lunch people file down both staircases in the middle so I have a difficult time going up :(

We should form a coalition that will get students to walk up and down the right staircases. But first, we need an awesome name.

I suggested to announce this on the PA system. I wrote an email to BTHS_COSA and at this rate, and I'm considering joining SGO to rant, but I have too many things like NHS and BETA to consider.

We need a communication system between the students and SGO. SGO is linked to the staff. If the students are too shy to go to SGO or to submit a suggestion into the box of suggestions Nick mentioned once, why not do it here? It's not my right to say it on BTHS News' behalf, but it'd be perhaps easier since we do have a good amount of people here? Maybe have a form or web-solution (since everyone has to have Internet) and have it embedded onto both BTHS (where clearly visible) and on BTHS News? Google's form solution would work sufficiently. Make a "online suggestion box." Nick mentioned it on February 11, 2011 (just saw the post a second ago somewhere).

Also, maybe someone with good rep (I'd nominate Nick, but an admin would do as general authority and rep, since not everyone knows Nick, I can't say I "know" him either) could post a sticky or just sticky this, or make it a global announcement across the forum?

I'm sick of seeing people push and seeing two lines going up and down on the UP staircase and people skipping via the DOWN staircase. It's not only unsafe, but it make lateness a more common issue and could further disrupt the limited class time there is when someone supposedly comes late and disrupts the lesson.

Just my "two cents" or my view of the issue. It should be announced, since it's already happening so much that it's not funny anymore, nor was it funny to begin with. It's a serious problem, or maybe it's just me.

Well said, but I don't think enough Tech kids are on the forum to see this thread and hear our please. Additionally, the PA system idea sounds good, but most kids don't listen to the announcements.

I literally stood still in the staircase for a good 20 seconds, then moved four steps, waited another 20 seconds, and the rest of it did not move fast at all. When you have to get from 1st to 5th in 4 minutes, that time is important, especially when it could be avoided...

I think everyone knows that they have to walk up the up staircase and down the down staircase. People are just too lazy to take the few extra steps to go the proper way. To solve this, I think that more people have to tell others to take the proper stairs. I remember last year when I had to walk just ONE floor up to a certain class, but it took forever because people were walking down the up staircase and causing traffic. And what did people do to stop that? Nothing. We need to encourage people to inform others to go the right way, even if it means yelling at them.

Or physical violence. Yessss.
-rubs hands in glee-
I usually shove into them or shoulder them hard if I'm talking with a friend while going up the stairs. Maybe I should get a shoulder spike and maybe that'll stop kids from walking down...

I really like that idea, and I've said the same thing many times before, but unfortunately the cutoff score is not determined by Brooklyn Tech.

There will be an announcement emphasizing the staircases and I have been told it will be something like this:

"Please adhere to the rules of the road while using the staircases. As you enter the staircase stay to the left and use the stairs immediately in front of you if you are travelling upstairs. If you are travelling downstairs, enter the stairwell, stay to the right and use the staircase located in the rear. This will limit 'traffic' in the stairwells and allow students to trave more quickly during passing."

Whoever said the 'dream' thing, I have been successful.

I hope to see some percentage decrease in traffic, at least 0.01%, that's a lot for the traffic there is.
