Ok, so we all know that the AP English Lit summer reading essay is being collected on monday. And I wouldn't be surprised if many of us find ourselves doing said essay this afternoon or evening. Congregate here and share your thoughts. Let's do this first essay together. What books did y'all choose?

But if anyone wants to discuss The Road, post away!

Oh come now, I really need help. I was away all summer, starting a week before school ended, in Ghana, where there is no internet. And today, I was singing at the 9/11 memorial at ground zero. I need some good fortune! I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. Plus, I have Schott!

Nobody forced you to do all of those things.
And for God's sake, I'm not a stranger, we've had pizza together.
And Schott isn't ridiculously hard. The most you'll get out of me is my rough thesis.
"Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic novel, The Road, surprisingly encompasses many of the metaphors and motifs that Foster discusses. Set in a not-so-far off wasteland, the father and son duo of The Road are subjected to a journey and a baptism through rain all while McCarthy expresses his views on mankind’s horrendous treatment of our environment."

Basically, Foster's chapters on the journey, baptism, and the fact that all writing is political. Easy as that.

Edit: Next time you go to Ghana, take the books with you and write the essay by hand. That would be the smart thing to do.

I guess it fulfills a bunch of the metaphors in the Foster book, but I dont understand the book at all. I mean I can infer some of the authors beliefs from it, but It doesnt speak to me. It ended on a WTF?!? sort of note.
