Any important info I missed besides all freshmen having to take PSAT this yr?

My mom couldn't make it so any info is very much appreciated.

My parents couldn't come either. My english teacher, Dean Witte, told us that the PSAT for freshmen this year is only a diagnostic in a way. She said it's free too. Now I have homework on SAT vocabulary.

The PSAT is just a shorter version of the SAT. It won't count towards your grade or anything, and if you get a really low score it wouldn't really matter much in terms of your college applications. If you score really high, however, you might be qualified for some pretty valuable scholarships.

I’ve heard that it can get you some pretty legit scholarships so I’ll be working hard at it. My brother’s paying $40000+ in college fees every year and that is not something I want to do. My teacher also suggested Shmoop as a PSAT Prep resource; apparently it takes a very fresh approach towards explaining concepts and has practice exercises, mock tests and test-taking strategies which really help. Think I’m going to give it a shot.

Typically, only people who score in the 99-100 percentile are qualified for the scholarships. Being black also helps.

There are millions of students taking the PSATs, and only about a thousand are chosen to win the scholarship. In other words, there is a lot of competition and only the kids with perfect or near-perfect scores are qualified.
And the reason why I mention that "being black also helps" is because there's a scholarship exclusively for African American students. There are less people competing for that scholarship, therefore there's a higher chance that an African American student will win one.

So the PSAT we're taking in October isn't a mock PSAT .__.

PSAT, to me, is a mock SAT.

Use common sense, skip questions you don't know. They take points off for incorrect answers.

The SATs and PSATs don't just test you on what you know. They want to know how well you take their tests.
