Hey guys everyone out there in Tech and beyond
So i took SHSAT last year.. and i guess i didn't study hard enough
taking it again this year since i was 4 points off last year (according to guidance counsler)

So what i want to really know is that diff?
i heard that there's Algebra 2 , Geo , and trig
scrambled are easier
passages and questions are harder

is that correct o_o anything else i should know?
and anyone have any links to like practice tests that are online or whatnot?

any information will be highly appreciated :D

If I had to guess, I don't think the scrambled paragraphs are any easier; if anything it should be harder. Try to study a lot harder this year; because if the SHSAT was designed so that the average eighth grader will fail it, then the SHSAT in ninth grade will be designed so that the average ninth grader will fail it. The cutoff score you need to pass might also be higher than last year, as there are many like you who have failed before but dedicated themselves into getting to the school of their choice.

You were 4 points off from last year. The cutoff score might increase by around 20 points in the ninth grade SHSAT based on what I witnessed. So if you couldn't get in because the cutoff score was around 480, you'll have to try your best and pass the 500 mark.

There aren't much online resources, try to buy a Kaplan SHSAT book or another review book and study from it; make sure you get used to doing the questions so you'll be able to solve it fairly easily during the real SHSAT. For example, if you solve a lot of scrambled paragraphs and get fairly awesome at it, it'll be just that easier during the real SHSAT.

Good luck, but I doubt anything will be easier; everything will probably be harder. Try your best to beat the SHSAT instead of it beating you.

I like giraffes. :)

I know your feeling. I got in through the 9th grade SHSAT. from my experience, I would recommend you to go to your nearest local library and seek for the practice books, specially the Barron's SHSAT. make best use of the test booklet you got from the DOE. Employ the last two weeks in taking some practice tests with specific time condition and learning from your mistakes. Don't get nervous. choose which one is your strong side: reading or math and emphasize on it.

It has some alg2 and trig, but those are not big deal.
learn a bit about combinatorics(there are at least 2 quest frm this topic) and coordinate geometry( distance, midpoint, transformation and related)
the cut off score does not increase as the number of students decreases accordingly.
scrambles are usually easier.
yes, passages have complex sentence structure.
harder or easier: it all depends upto your preparation.

wish you all the best.

Depending on who's taking it.
Not everyone's as smart as you, you know. The logic section in math had me stumped for quite a few times.
