Just out of curiosity, does Tech have a limit on the number of EXCUSED absences per marking period/semester/school year, before you get in trouble? Is it a HUGE deal if you're absent, say, 3 times a month, with an excuse note the day after?

Yes, it's huge.

(Note when I refer to "you", I am not really referring to the person who started this topic. I am certainly not wanting to be rude to the author of the post. This is more like a general "you" for any student who misses class.)
My personal opinion is that a rule of thumb is to think about how many absences are really acceptable if school were your job. Do you think a boss will stand for a "sorry, I was sick" on a frequent basis? The boss will find a worker who will actually be there every day.
There comes a point in time where a student really has to learn responsibility for their actions. While all of us are sick from time to time, my opinion is that absences should be reserved for when you are TRULY ill. And it might not even matter if the teacher has an official "punishment" policy for frequent absences or not. The built-in "punishment" for missing class a lot is that you will not learn the material as well if you are not in the classroom hearing and seeing the lesson being done.

And I should add, by the way, that some people of course do have legit medical issues and that of course is a different situation. I again want to mention that I am not trying to be rude to the original person who started the post. My comment in the post above was more directed to any student out there who might take off, more often than they should, for non-illness reasons.

I was absent 21 times for 3 years in a row at tech. As long as you do all of the make up work and present a note non of my teachers failed me. If you do get into any trouble take up with the administration. If you can pass the exams and do all of your homework it's not fair that you fail a class because you were sick.
