CD-Rs are still pretty viable. Until I get a DVD-burner, they will suffice. Good for backing up parts of your hard drive, or even ghosting if you have Norton Ghost. I'll admit, USB flash drives are "better," since you can just drag and drop, but CD-R's are MUCH cheaper!

heh i have a dvd +/- rw and found it exremely useless. Only after did i realize dvd's are css encrypted(not that i wanted to copy any from friend my own back up copies :-) heh), its to much work to copy protected dvd's. I would rarely use 4.7 gig's of data, dvd discs are more expensive. I shoulda spent my money ons omething better :?

Mine is pretty cheap too, and I got it when they were still fairly new. But I don't have much use for it anymore, I needed it in the 8th grade when I was Mac and my school was Windows, and I constantly had to bring files back and forth and whatnot.
But today you just read that the man was shot dead

I usually have 4.7 gigs of data to move around and it takes maybe an hour to decrypt and compress and then 15 minutes to burn maybe.
So backing up dvd's and burning data is quite useful to me.
I just burned 11 cds for a friend who doesn't have a dvd reader. = that could have been 2 dvds.
