In Topic: What is the Media major like?
28 March 2012 - 04:15 PM
Meh, media is alright. For me though, I feel like I would've been better off in a a science major because I realize now that I won't be pursuing art.
Last year was not that great for me because I didn't have Tanzman. You're lucky you won't have to live through what half the kids in my year did.
What I enjoy most is this term; where we are animating in Maya. Once you get used to using a whole new program, it's more enjoyable. Senior year in Media is more chill.
I heard you guys probably won't have web design anymore...
Not sure about this, but since they are trying to get media students certified in the programs we work with (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop) and certs are expensive (~$120 per test - you keep taking the test until you past but it'll be an additional $120 each time), your year may need to pay for them (or get fee waivers). We are the test monkeys this year so we didn't need to pay at all.
I wish you best.
PS: Double period movies on Friday, don't forget to bring food.

In Topic: AP electives for junior year?
28 March 2012 - 03:59 PM
You will take the APs required by your major. There are however, APs that are only for certain majors (e.i. AP Java for comp sci)
You may take electives, as have been mentioned above, include AP English Language, AP US History (or Government if you took US History sophomore year), AP Calculus AB/BC or AP Physics B.
Honors Trig and Math major students get first dibs on AP Calculus AB or BC (BC actually covers an extra unit and is a double period class as opposed to AB)
All AP sciences are double period.
The max I believe people can take is 4 (because some APs are double period). I know some juniors now who have 4 APs; 1-10 schedule without lunch.
Senior year can be like this too.

Eh? But I heard there were students who play counter strike and star craft on school computers.
